Born in the Roaring '20s

Frank Lucas, born on September 9, 1930, in La Grange, North Carolina, was a true child of the Great Depression. Growing up in a family of 21 kids, he learned early on that life wasn't always fair. But young Frank was no ordinary kid; he had a spark, a fire that would one day light up the streets of Harlem.

From the South to the Big Apple

In the '50s, Frank moved to New York City, where he started working for the infamous crime lord, Ellsworth "Bumpy" Johnson. He was just a young buck, eager to make a name for himself in the big city. Little did he know, he was about to shake up the drug scene in a way no one saw coming.

Rise of the "Italian Connection"

Frank was no ordinary drug dealer. He was a pioneer, creating the "Italian Connection" by smuggling heroin straight from Southeast Asia. He was young, bold, and making a killing - literally. His fame grew, and so did his empire. But how old was he during this time?

By the late '60s, when Frank was in his prime, he was just 37 years old. Imagine that - a 37-year-old running one of the most notorious drug operations in history. Talk about a young gun!

The Feds Catch Up

But all good things must come to an end, right? In 1975, at the ripe old age of 44, Frank was arrested and sentenced to 70 years in prison. He spent the next two decades behind bars, but his legend lived on.
