From Stand-up to Screen

Carmichael's journey to stardom began in the comedy clubs of his hometown, Winston-Salem, North Carolina. After honing his craft on the stand-up circuit, he made his TV debut on Conan in 2011. Since then, he's been a regular on late-night shows, using his sharp wit and observational humor to keep audiences in stitches.

Netflix Specials: Where It All Began

Carmichael's first Netflix special, Love at the Store, dropped in 2014 and introduced his unique brand of comedy to a wider audience. In this hour-long set, he dishes out laughs on everything from relationships to racial identity. His follow-up special, 8, premiered in 2017 and delved deeper into his personal life, tackling topics like family, fame, and the challenges of success.

TV Shows: From Sitcoms to Dramedies

In 2015, Carmichael created and starred in the NBC sitcom The Carmichael Show. This hilarious and thought-provoking series tackled hot-button issues through the lens of a multigenerational African American family. Each episode was inspired by real-life events, making it a unique blend of comedy and social commentary. Sadly, the show was canceled after four seasons, but you can still stream all the laughs on Hulu or Peacock.

If you're craving more of Carmichael's dramatic chops, check out his role in the HBO limited series Lovecraft Country. In this chilling and suspenseful tale, he plays a recurring character who helps the main protagonists navigate the terrifying world of H.P. Lovecraft's mythos. Carmichael's ability to seamlessly switch between comedy and drama is a testament to his versatility as an actor.

Movies: From Supporting Roles to Leading Man

Carmichael has made a name for himself in the film industry as well, with memorable roles in movies like The Meddler, Neighbors 2: Sorority Rising, and Transformers: The Last Knight. But it's his leading role in the 2021 film On the Count of Three that truly showcases his range.
