Meet the Spanos Family: The Chargers' Royalty

The Spanos family has been calling the shots for the Chargers since 1984. That's right, they've been around longer than some of you have been alive! The patriarch, Alex Spanos, a Greek-American businessman, bought the team when it was based in San Diego. He passed the torch to his son, Dean, who's been at the helm since 2013.

Now, you might be thinking, "That's all well and good, but who are these Spanos folks?" Well, they're a family with a serious love for football and a knack for business. Alex made his fortune in real estate, and the family's philanthropic efforts have left a mark on both San Diego and Los Angeles.

From San Diego to LA: A Tale of Relocation

In 2017, the Chargers packed their bags and moved north to LA. It was a big change, and not everyone was thrilled about it. But the Spanos family had their reasons. They saw an opportunity to reach a larger fanbase and build a new stadium. It was like trading in your old beater for a shiny new sports car – but with a lot more paperwork.

Now, the Chargers call the beautiful SoFi Stadium home. It's like they went from playing in your backyard to performing on a massive, state-of-the-art stage. Not too shabby, huh?

More Than Just Owners: The Spanos Family's Impact

The Spanos family isn't just about the business side of things. They're also passionate about giving back to the community. They've supported various charities, including those focused on education, health, and military families. It's like they're not just building a team, they're building a family – and we're all invited.
